I was induced on Wednesday, July 13th. The hospital called and asked if we could come in at 7:30 a.m. Of course we didn't sleep much the night before. At 8:30 a.m. Dr. Terry came in and broke my water. Which by the way is the worst pain ever!!! They should have told me to have an epidural for that part. By 11:30 I was dilated to a 5 and about 45 minutes later a 6. Dr. Terry came in about 1:15 p.m. and checked me and I was at a 10 ready to push. At 1:30 I started pushing twice through a contraction and 2 contractions later Scarlett entered the world. It was a nice fast labor. Cole and my mom were able to be in the delivery room with me. Scarlett is named after my mom so it meant a lot to me that she was able to witness her birth. She weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz. and was 21 inches long. She scored a 9 on her Apgar test and was just PERFECT! We had such a wonderful experience in the hospital. We had the best nurses and had lots of visitors. Scarlett had jaundice when we left the hospital and we had to get her blood drawn the next day to check her bilirubin. We ended up having to get a bilibed for a couple days. We finally got to go home on Monday afternoon. It has been such a joy to have her part of our family.
I was nervous to see how Adelaide would react to Scarlett, but she has loved having her home with us. She wants to give her hugs and kisses all day long. When I burp her she will climb up on the couch next to me and help. I can't leave Scarlett alone with Adelaide. She thinks she can pick her up and tote her around like her babies. She is going to be one big helper.
I am feeling great! I've had a nice recovery and am LOVING not being pregnant anymore!! It is so wonderful to be able to get up and down easier. Adelaide can actually sit on my lap to read books without a huge belly in the way. And I get to enjoy a newborn. Oh how wonderful it really is!! Now if I could just fit in my normal clothes everything would be perfect.
