Well for those of you who didn't know Cole and I bought our first house. We moved over to Kemmerer, Wyoming from Mountain View so Cole can be closer to work. There is not a whole lot of homes to choose from here, but we finally found one that we thought had potential. Let me give you a quick run down of what has happened while buying this home. The home we bought was for sale by owner. It actually didn't even have a sign in front, but Cole works with a couple guys in the circle and they told us about the house. Cole knocked on the door and asked the guy if he was selling and if he could look at it. The house was sooo bad! They had stuff everywhere and it was disgustingly dirty. We were so disappointed. We decided to look at it again and this time I went with. I couldn't believe it! Cole said it was better the second time and he thought it had some potential. Well we looked at it a couple more times and then decided to make our offer. We were trying to hurry so we could get the tax credit. We got in under contract and found out that the guy actually didn't own the home that it was his parents. We met them when we signed the contract and were relieved that we would be working with them and not the guy that lived in the house.
Well finally closing came and of course the day of closing I have a migraine. Once we are done the lady says they didn't have any keys to give you. What!? That is suppose to be the most exciting part of closing to actually get keys in your hands. Once we got to the house and walked in we wanted to cry. We definitely were having buyers remorse. We were so disgusted with the people that lived in it that we didn't want to touch anything! We only stayed a few minutes and then we just wanted to get out of there. I'm pretty sure I cried myself to sleep that night. The next day Cole's sweet dad came up to help us get started on the biggest project of our lives. The first thing to go was the carpet. Well as we were going through the house we started noticing things. They had switched the fridge and range oven on us. They were both so gross! The oven went straight to the dump and the fridge I cleaned really good until we could get a new one. (which hasn't come yet...dang rc willey brought the wrong one!) Well we then noticed a leak coming from the dishwasher that wasn't there when we had an inspector come out. I was looking at some pictures we had when they lived there and noticed they had changed out the kitchen faucet. Are you kidding me!!! I then realized that they had tried to take the dishwasher, but there was a pipe going through it that they didn't have the tools to undo so they caused a leak. You can imagine our frustration. Who knows what else they did to the house. The owners, not the son were nice and gave us some money for them taking the appliances, but it wasn't enough to even pay for one of them.
Well after 5 weeks of Cole's and Vern's hard work we were ready to move in. Thanks to Vern, James, Richie and Mike for coming up and helping us move!! Cole and Vern painted everything in the house. I did help do some closets, but it took forever and I wasn't very good. Cole put in new flooring in the kitchen, entry way and hall. We got new carpet and had Cole's friend Cody come do a new fireplace. Here are some before and afters. We are not done with everything yet.
I didn't get a before picture of the outside of our house. There were cedars that covered our front window. You couldn't even hardly see out of it. There were some other trees down the walkway that you can still see the stumps. You could barely see any of the house from the street. It was so ugly. Hopefully we will get to the yard this fall and then plant some flowers next spring.
He did such good job! We are so grateful that he was able to come up and help us out! If anyone needs some rock work let us know and we will give you his number. He just started his own little business. Cole still has the sanding and painting to do on that wall. We are going to paint it the grey that you can see.
They had the ugly vertical blinds that didn't even cover the whole window.
The first picture is a little dark. It had ugly laminate flooring, wall paper and chair rail.
Here is the disgusting oven they left us. We are going to paint the cupboards white and get new hardware this winter.
We got all new doors. We still need to put the finish pieces on the flooring, sand the fireplace wall, put some baseboards up and other small things. Then we will get to the yard, bathrooms and hopefully one day the basement. I am so grateful to have such a handy husband. He has done such a great job. Everything looks really good.
